Elliot Page is an actor and producer from Canada. Elliot began his career in television in Canada in 1987. He gained notoriety in 2005 for his strong performance in the independent movie Hard Candy. Page was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on February 21, 1987, to graphic artist Dennis Page and teacher Martha Philpotts. Before transitioning in 2020, he used the name Ellen, which was assigned to him at birth as a female name. At the age of 10, Page made her screen debut as Maggie Maclean in the CBC Television film Pit Pony in 1997. The film eventually became the basis for a 1999–2000 television series of the same name. This was Page’s second project with Allison Janney, and his third with director Sian Heder, both of whom he had previously collaborated with on Juno. On November 9, 2017, the news broke that Page had landed the lead character of Vanya/Viktor Hargreaves in the Netflix superhero series The Umbrella Academy. The program received favorable reviews from critics, who praised Page for his performance.
Following Page’s disclosure of his gender identity, it became apparent that he would keep up his part in the series, with Netflix changing Page’s name throughout the network. In March 2022, reports stated that the character would undergo a gender transition and return in the forthcoming third season. Press descriptions of the three-track EP include “lo-fi bedroom pop adventure” and “awesome.” He inked a general contract with Universal Content Productions in August 2021. In September 2021, Page established Page Boy Productions, a production firm, and named Matt Jordan Smith as Head of Production and Development. In February 2022, news broke that Flatiron Books had acquired Page’s memoir, Pageboy, for $3 million. Flatiron Books has scheduled the release of the book for June 2023. The memoir opened as the number one nonfiction book on The New York Times Best Sellers List.
He will serve as executive producer of the film Back Spot, which Page Boy Productions announced in October 2022. The production filming in Toronto came to an end in March 2023.
