For his performance as Hayley Stark in the film Hard Candy, Page won an award in 2005.

From 2006 to 2007

USA Today commended him for his performance, declaring that Page.

“Manages to be both cruelly callous and likable,” and he gave “one of the most complex, disturbing, and haunting performances of the year.”

He acted in the British film Mouth to Mouth in 2005 as well. Page made her screen debut as the wall-climbing Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). The movie was a financial hit. His big break came in 2007 when he played the titular character, a teenage girl who is pregnant, in the coming-of-age comedy-drama Juno. The movie was a critical and commercial triumph, regarded by many as one of the greatest of the 2000s, and critics praised Page’s performance.

“Frighteningly talented… who can seem, in the space of a single scene, mature beyond… years and disarmingly childlike,” according to New York Times film critic A. O. Scott, and “presence and timing are extraordinary,” according to Roger Ebert, who declared that Page’s 2007 performance was the best of any actor. Page’s performance earned him nominations for numerous honors, including Best Actress Critics’ Choice, Best Actress Golden Globe, Best Actress — Motion Picture Comedy or Musical, and Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role Screen Actors Guild.

For this part, he also received multiple critics’ honors from the Detroit Film Critics Society, Austin Film Critics Association, and Florida Film Critics Circle, in addition to the Canadian Comedy Award, Independent Spirit Award, and Satellite Award. In addition, he starred in the films An American Crime and The Tracey Fragments in 2007. The latter garnered him praise from critics, with the Boston Herald noting that

“It is also a further reminder that Page is the real thing.”

Page received nominations for MTV and Saturn Awards, among other honors. Additionally, he accepted the role of star in the 2010 dark comedic superhero movie Super after reading the screenplay. Reviewers gave the movie mixed reviews, but many complimented Page for his portrayal of a psychotic young sidekick.
Page first appeared in many Cisco Systems commercials in January 2010, some of which were filmed in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

In the Michael Lander picture Peacock that April, Page played a young mother who is struggling, Maggie Bailey. Page hailed the film as

“one of the boldest screenplays I’ve come across in my albeit short career; it’s a character and story I can throw myself into and exactly the type of movie I love to be a part of”.

It was revealed in April 2011 that Page would co-star as Monica in the 2012 release of Woody Allen’s film To Rome with Love, which is divided into four distinct vignettes.

From 2013 to 2014 (The video game Beyond)

Two Souls, which was published in North America on October 8, 2013, features Page as one of the primary player characters, Jodie Holmes, through both voice acting and motion capture. The game was first revealed by Quantic Dream in June 2012. Although there were mixed reviews for the game, GamesTM gave Page’s performance high marks, calling it “truly breathtaking… Jodie’s character is one we’ve seen before in many films–a troubled child with a gift, haunted by spirits, struggling with growing up.”

They released The Last of Us, a different video game, in 2013. Page stated that they altered Ellie’s appearance to better reflect the personality of the real performer and to make the character appear younger after the production used his likeness without obtaining his consent. Ultimately, the movie continued forward without Page, with playwright Julia Hart taking over as director.

In 2013, he also acted in Lynn Shelton’s Touchy Feely and co-starred in Zal Batmanglij’s thriller The East. As Kitty Pryde, Page returned to the role in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). The movie was a huge box office hit and earned favorable reviews from reviewers, who named it one of the best X-Men movies ever. Page performed as Han Solo in a staged reading of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in December 2014.

2015 to 2016

Page portrayed Laurel Hester in the 2015 film Freeheld. Review site Rotten Tomatoes stated of the movie, “Freeheld certainly means well, but its cardboard characters and by-the-numbers drama undermine its noble intentions.” In 2016, Page co-starred as the title character in the Netflix movie Tallulah. This was Page’s second project with Allison Janney, and his third with director Sian Heder, both of whom he had previously collaborated with on Juno. His character in the movie is a young mother who kidnaps a child and attempts to pass it off as her own.

“What grounds it is the terrific performances and Heder’s rich direction and screenplay,”

The Guardian said of his acting. He acted in the movie Window Horses and sang Rosy’s English voice in the French film My Life as a Zucchini, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and received positive reviews.

From 2017 to 2019

On November 9, 2017, the news broke that Page had landed the lead character of Vanya/Viktor Hargreaves in the Netflix superhero series The Umbrella Academy. The program received favorable reviews from critics, who praised Page for his performance.

Following Page’s disclosure of his gender identity, it became apparent that he would keep up his part in the series, with Netflix changing Page’s name throughout the network. In March 2022, reports stated that the character would undergo a gender transition and return in the forthcoming third season. During “World’s Biggest Ball of Twine,” the character comes out to his siblings for a brief moment. He starred in the science fiction picture Flatliners, which was released in 2017 and became a financial success.

Critics panned Flatliners, but they praised Page and the ensemble cast. Film critic Matt Zoller Seitz wrote,

“Luna and Page, in particular, make much stronger impressions than you might expect, given the repetitious and mostly shallow scenarios they’re asked to enact.” But any sympathy the actors manage to muster is eventually dashed by the choppy, corny images and the script’s cursory treatment of the characters’ situations.” He appeared in and produced the movie The Cured in 2017.

As Shawna Hopkins, Page starred in the well-received Netflix miniseries Tales of the City in 2019.

From 2020 to 2024

Page and Ian Daniel produced and directed the documentary There’s Something in the Water, which explores environmental racism. It had its world premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival before being made available on Netflix on March 27, 2020. The Hollywood Reporter wrote that although the movie is

“made in a standard documentary format that includes a voiceover and a tad too much weepy music,” it “gets its job done directly enough, underlining a situation that remains dire despite what seems to be a growing level awareness around the country.”

The movie garnered positive reviews from critics. Page and Mark Rendall worked together on a Bandcamp music release in August 2021. Press descriptions of the three-track EP include “lo-fi bedroom pop adventure” and “awesome.” He inked a general contract with Universal Content Productions in August 2021. In September 2021, Page established Page Boy Productions, a production firm, and named Matt Jordan Smith as Head of Production and Development. In February 2022, news broke that Flatiron Books had acquired Page’s memoir, Pageboy, for $3 million. Flatiron Books has scheduled the release of the book for June 2023. The memoir opened as the number one nonfiction book on The New York Times Best Sellers List.

He will serve as executive producer of the film Back Spot, which Page Boy Productions announced in October 2022. The production filming in Toronto came to an end in March 2023.
